Bill, eye-ring and legs coral red
Sharp unbroken black necklace running from the bill over the eye and right around the throat
Flanks marked with vertical black and chestnut bars on a creamy ground
Throat inside the necklace creamy buff; rock partridge has a pure white throat and a finer necklace
Coveys escape by running uphill, taking off with a clatter of wings only at the last moment and gliding downhill
Accelerating repeated "chuk-chuk-chukar", which gives the bird both its English and scientific name
