Neophron percnopterus
Identification suggestions (from the community or from AI) and the information here may be wrong; this app never confirms that anything is safe to eat. Do not consume wild plants, mushrooms or seafood without expert confirmation. Nothing here is medical advice.
A globally endangered species; keep away from nests. Touch neither the carcass it feeds on nor an injured bird. Poisoned bait is the main threat in Turkey, so report any dead bird to the authorities.
Ask an adult
Adult dirty white with only the flight feathers black, so from below the rear half of the wing is jet black
Tail wedge or diamond-shaped with a pointed tip, instantly separating it from the griffon's short square tail
Bare bright yellow face with a slender, long, hook-tipped bill
A shaggy mane of erectile yellowish-white feathers on the nape
Juvenile is all dark brown so colour is useless; identify it by the wedge tail and bare-faced profile
